backyard spring…

weeds, et cetera

What then is a weed?  According to Wikipedia it’s a ‘plant considered undesirable in a particular situation. “a plant in the wrong place”‘

Except in my backyard where weeds, mushrooms (fungi) and some kind of strange grass seem to thrive.  Perhaps because my backyard has become a rather large compost bin, where oak leaves, dead oak twigs and various and sundry other, once living, things disappear back into the soil.  What’s it called…

… decomposition and decay and out of it can come intriguing communities of fungi…like these tiny mushrooms.

all the above happening in my backyard…today…weeds, et cetera!

“What is a weed?  A plant whose virtues have never been discovered.”

 –Ralph Waldo Emerson

Easter 2016

For several years this was Don’s Easter basket.  He got a kick out of the yellow bunny in the middle…it can be turned inside out and when it is, (believe it or not), it turns into a blue egg.  He’d laugh and laugh! 😀

I’ll be thinking about Jesus tomorrow and I’ll be thinking about Don too.

And laughter, and happiness, and I’ll be thinking a lot about hope.

“Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.” -Desmond Tutu (

welcome sweet springtime…

the 2016 vernal equinox has arrived

find out more here at The Old Farmers Almanac

There is no time so sweet as spring,
When nature dons her best ;
Dispell’d is gloom, when bud and bloom
Awake from winter’s rest.
The birds again their carols sing
Within the vernal trees,
And violets rise with purple eyes
To greet the gentle breeze.

looks like…

a happy elephant

that’s  what I see, how about you

seeing a face where there is none is called

apparently human beings are hard wired to do this as part of our instinct for survival

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

every now and then when I see a face, in an object where there is no actual face, I draw it or photograph it and it ends up here

let’s “face” it, I take my inspiration from where ever I happen to find it

happy day
