creating…

with “doodle dots”

okay so I wanted to use up some Sharpie markers (before they dry up) and this is what I came up with

chickens

I can just hear them clucking as they scratch and peck at the ground…LOVE chickens, would have a couple in the backyard but not such a good idea since the K9 toilets there (and yes I do clean up after Baron, but still….)

First Day of Autumn 2015

now Mother Earth

please, please, please…

bring on some cooler weather

🙂

IMG_8342fall

I’ve decorated my Autumn/Halloween tree and put out my fall/halloween decorations (photos soon) because I’m so ready to celebrate this season of the year.  I’m feeling the slightest little bit of a decrease in the humidity here in the Sunshine State…oh how I miss Arizona 🙂

No matter where in the world you live have a peaceful Wednesday!

do squirrels eat mushrooms?

and the answer is:

YES

they do

I have suspected for some time that my backyard squirrels were eating the mushrooms that grow abundantly there.  I would see mushrooms in various stages of disturbance and wondered what was causing the disturbance.  I knew that neither Baron (the Dachshund) nor I were backyard mushroom fans and wondered if my poor starving squirrels (who no longer have the wonderfulness of bird seed to fill their constantly empty bellies) were availing themselves of every possible food source in the back yard.  And lo and behold I caught one in the act yesterday (no photo…didn’t have the camera readily available).  Holding the mushroom in it’s tiny “hands”, he/she nibbled with gusto on the “cap” of a creamy colored mushroom.

So today I asked my favorite search engine, “do squirrels eat mushrooms?” and found an interesting answer courtesy of a National Geographic blog, located

here

Squirrels are quite intelligent and this article only confirmed what I had long suspected…that even if the world goes to hell in a hand basket that squirrels will survive 🙂

(The mushroom eating squirrels have not bothered this mushroom…so perhaps they know it would be a deadly meal…no matter how hungry they are.)

Happy Saturday to one and all 🙂

The Frog…

IMG_8328laranathefrog

There actually is/was a cantina in Nogales Mexico, named The Frog (only in Spanish).  It caught my eye because of the painting of a frog on the exterior and because, at that time, I was very enamored of frogs.  My ardor has cooled quite a bit since I moved to Florida and have Bufo frogs in my back yard.  Bufo frogs are poisonous and Baron (the dachshund) thinks they make excellent playthings.  He’s had his third skirmish with one and since I had to think of a way to protect him, he now wears a soft muzzle when he takes his walks in the back yard.

I’m very happy to say, my cantina frog is just a nice, non-poisonous, garden variety frog 🙂

Happy Saturday!

Pier 42…

Born beside the Elizabeth River in Virginia, I grew up and have lived a great deal of my life near the water…be it river, ocean or gulf.  The only thing I ever regretted about living in Arizona was that it was such a long drive to an ocean.

Like fire, water fascinates…so primal, so basic…our very survival depends on it.

Childhood Memories Series…

#2

The Tom Boy

IMG_8315childhoodmemories2

The Child was a born Tom Boy…maybe more-so because her Dad had wanted a son and didn’t get one.  So she tried her darndest to be as boyish as she could…overalls and hightops, a pen knife for her birthday and a small ax for Christmas.  No kidding a small ax and Dad taught her how to use it…properly.  By the time she was nine she could chop a 12 inch diameter oak log (24+ inches long) with the best of them (using a normal sized ax, with an occasional assist from a wedge and maul).

So hip hip hoorah to all the Tom Boys out there …young, old and in-between!

Happy Tuesday!
